Reuben Elgin Owens Jr. was born in Roswell New Mexico on July 20, 1946 to Margaret and Reuben Owens Sr. Later they moved to Albuquerque and lived in the South Broadway neighborhood where he attended Lincoln Jr High and graduated from Albuquerque High where he ran track and played football. Later he attended Trinidad State College in Colorado before being drafted into the Army where he served during Vietnam.
Reuben as a young man worked many different jobs and started many businesses. He worked for Ed Black cars, ran a record store, arranged concert event, and had ca couple of restaurants in Albuquerque before being transferred to Phoenix, Arizona with Yellow Freight. After an injury Reuben retired from yellow freight and continued with the spirit of entrepreneurship and said he would never work for anyone else. Reuben had Barbeque and deli restaurants in several locations downtown Phoenix, worked different festivals with his food and flipped houses too. He took pride and believed that all food was bad unless he cooked it. Reuben was always ready for the next big thing to do. He once had a farm with goats and even a catfish farm in Oklahoma. Later he returned to Phoenix where he lived for the majority of Thirty five years.
Reuben was preceded in Death by his father Reuben Owens Sr. and wife Irene, Mother Margaret and Eddie Richardson, Brothers Kenneth Lewis and Vernon Owens, and Sister Edna Hadley and nieces and nephews that he loved.
Reuben is survived by his children Alfreda McMillian(Fredrick), Tina McKeller, Theodore Robinson, Patrick Owens(Shanique), And Tearsha Freeman( Armad) and Sean Owens and 17 Grandchildren. He also leaves Sisters Dorris Lewis Ward, Jean Noland, Theresa Edwards (Maurice) and Margaret Hill( Jimmy) and a host of nieces, nephews Family and friends.
