Rex L. Mickey

May 27, 1923 — October 8, 2009

Rex L. Mickey, 86, of Flora Vista, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 8, 2009. He was born on May 27, 1923, in Acumen, Colorado, the son of Charlie and Madge Mickey.Rex was a man of God, serving as a minister in the Church of Christ for more than 55 years. He served his country proudly during World War II on the U.S.S. Seawolf, SS197, on nine patrols. He was one of the last men to leave the ship alive. In 1946, Rex married the love of his life and through their 63 years together, they raised their daughter, Anna Culer, and sons, Dallas Mickey (Jackee) and Timothy Z. Mickey, who preceded his Dad in death.Mickey was preceded in death by his parents , Charlie and Madge Mickey. He is survived by his wife, Tina. Rex also has seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Rex was what you might call a rock hound and incorporated his love of rock hunting into jewelry and furniture. He also was quite the singer, especially on road trips. If he forgot the words to a song, he would just make them up. He could also play a mean round of golf. Rex was not only a minister, but also friend and mentor to each person who came into his life. He will be truly missed, but not forgotten. Brother Dennis Davis will officiate. Proudly serving as pallbearers are Todd Baker, Jeff Baker, Brandon Baker, Michael Baker, Raymond Mickey and Kory Faulk. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Presbyterian North Western Hospice. Online condolences can be submitted at www.danielsfuneral.com. Services have been entrusted to Alternative Choice Cremation and Funeral Services 804 N. Dustin Ave Farmington, New Mexico (505) 326-3671.
