Richard Keith Bailey passed away peacefully in his family home on January 24th 2021 surrounded by family. He was born in Decatur, Illinois on October 20th 1926 to Paul and Blanche Bailey. They moved to New Mexico in 1930. He received his Bachelor’s degree from UNM in 1948. Richard was working for E.J. Workman in UNM’s research and development program when Dr. Workman was selected as President of NM Tech, resulting in his move to Socorro. He retired from NM Tech as the Chief Field Engineer in explosives research (for TERA? Bill?). Richard was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Blanche Bailey, as well as his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley Hawk-Bailey, and his sister Phyllis Chisholm. He was survived by his four children, Shirleen Bretz (Bob), Bill Bailey (Charlene), Ted Bailey (Judy), and Elizabeth Winterrowd (David). Richard was also loved and adored by his 11 grandkids, 23 great-grandkids, and 3 great-great-grandkids. Richard will be missed by many in his community and was loved by all. He was the example of a true family man, with endless stories and knowledge that will be passed on for generations to come. His smile was infectious and will be imprinted on our hearts forever. A memorial service for Richard was held at the Church of Christ on January 28th. In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that Donations may be made to the Socorro Church of Christ at P.O.
