Richard George Lyneis

LYNEIS- Richard George Lyneis, 75, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM passed away March 14, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Catherine; children, Susan, Lynn and Paul; grandchildren, Taryn, Cole, Luke and Shane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Wilhelmina and his son, Paul. Richard was born September 12, 1935 in Fond du Lac, WI. He was a life-long journalist and Green Bay Packer fan. He was among the first journalists to receive a Ford Foundation Scholarship to Stanford. He began his professional career at the Milwaukee Journal as a sports writer. He moved to Appleton where he worked as the City Editor. In 1969, he took a position as City Editor of the Press Enterprise in Riverside, CA. Eventually, he found he missed writing and went back to reporting, first as an Investigative Reporter and then as the Business Editor. In 1986, he took a position at the Albuquerque Journal as an investigative reporter where he worked until his retirement. Richard was an avid reader and historian. He has an extensive library of books to which he was constantly adding. He enjoyed sports both as a fan and a volunteer coach. He shared these passions first with his children and then with his grandchildren. Most of all, he loved his wife Mary Catherine. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am with a Mass following at 10:30 am, Tuesday, March 29, 2011, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road, Rio Rancho, NM. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Richard’s name to Presbyterian Hospice, 8300 Constitution Avenue NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110, 505-559-1133 or the charity of choice.
