Mr. Richard “Richie” John Meegan Sr. died peacefully in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, on January 28, 2022, at the age of 66.
Richard is survived by his wife Caroline Teresa Meegan of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, his daughter Madeline Teresa Lovato and son in law Michael Lovato of Rio Rancho, NM, his son Richard John Meegan II and his fiancée Tamara Dawn Davis of Rio Rancho, NM, by brother Michael Anthony Meegan of Albuquerque, NM, by brother Thomas Paul Meegan of Rio Rancho, NM, by grandchildren Antonio Ray Lovato, Jacob Michael Lovato, Jazzmyn Renee Lovato, Mickayla Rozlynn Meegan and LeRoyal Elliot. Richard is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews of whom he loved very much, and by his loving furry friend Dixie. Richard is preceded in death by his mother Kathryn Marie Meegan, his father Joseph Patrick Meegan and by his brother Joseph Phillip Meegan.
Richard was born on October 2, 1955, to parents Kathryn Marie (Mckee) Meegan and Joseph Patrick Meegan in Queens Borough, New York, New York. He attended Bayside High School in Queens Borough. Richard married Ms. Caroline Teresa Habacz in Rio Rancho, New Mexico on August 19, 1978, they were married for over 43 years and had two children.
He was loved by many and made friends everywhere he went. His smile lit up the room.
Richard worked at Smith’s Food and Drug Grocery Store for 28 years, Santa Ana Star Casino for 1 year, and with Rio Rancho Public Schools for 12 years. He was a Bowling Coach for V. Sue Cleveland High School for 2 years, and a Softball Coach when his daughter was younger.
Special interests of Richard’s included playing poker, bowling, horse racing, baseball, his favorite baseball team the New York Yankees, football New York Giants and Denver Broncos, and fantasy baseball and football. He was also an administrator for the New York Yankee Baseball Talk Organization. Richard maintained an active membership with St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
