Richard Tullos 'R.T.' Toliver Fed. 24, 1930 - June 8, 2009 Richard Tullos "R.T." Toliver 79, of Farmington, went to join his Lord on Monday, June 8, 2009. He was born Feb. 24 1930, 1n Floyd, to Tullos and Elizabeth Toliver. Born into a family of teachers, he always had a desire to teach and help people. After graduating from Floyd High School, he joined the United States Navy, serving as a corpsman in the Korean War(1950 - 1954.) He earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1957, and a master's degree in 1962. He taught industrial arts at Farmington High School for 16 years. He then moved into the role of vice principal at Tibbetts Junior High School . He served as principal of Bloomfield High School from 1976 to 1984. He retired after serving the teaching community for 26 years. After his retirement, he served on numerous New Mexico associations of teaching from 1970 to 1984. he was director of Central Consolidated School District Special services from 1973 10 1976. He was on the Bloomfield City Council from 1978 to 1986,and served as mayor of Bloomfield from 1986 to 1990. He served as a New Mexico state representative from 1989 to 1991, and chairman of Education Commitee and the Voter Election Committee. During his life, he was a 33rd degree Mason and a lifetime Elks member, Lodge No. 1747. He loved to fish and hunt, along with boating, water skiing and snowmobiling. His spark of life laughter and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew him, loved him and learned from him. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Roberta Toliver. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley; his sister, Betty Greathouse; his son Douglas Toliver; daughter, Dee Ann Toliver and husband, Bill McNicholas; Grandchildren Chad Ford, Reagan Ford and her friend, Sabrini Melendez, Colton Toliver; nephews Dan and Ross Greathouse. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund or the salvation army.
