Robert A. (“Andy”) Johnson
Andy Johnson died November 5, 2022, at his Albuquerque home. He is survived by his best friend Carol, daughters Carolyn and Elizabeth, first born son Sam, grandchildren Andrew, Susan, and Helena, brothers Nick, Mike, and Blake, cousins Greg Gentry and Bill Bass of Lubbock, a plethora of nephews and a niece.
Andy attended elementary schools in Plainview, TX and Carlsbad, NM before moving to Albuquerque in 1956 and graduated from Sandia High School in 1962. He received a BS in Secondary Education from UNM and an MA in Counseling from Webster University.
He began a 39-year association with APS first at Madison Jr. High School in 1972 with a contract worth $5200. In 1977 he moved to Sandia High School for a 3-year stint as the Auto Mechanics Instructor. There were more than a few of his former teachers still hanging on. In 1981 he began a years’ leave of absence that lasted until 1998 when he returned to the classroom at Eldorado High School where he taught Wood Technology, Auto Mechanics, and World History, while coordinating a drug education program for high school-age youth with a final contract worth $53,000. He was also the school representative for Albuquerque Teachers’ Federation. He was a lifelong Union man.
During his leave of absence, he started the entrepreneurial life as the owner of Accu-Aire, an HVAC company, and a few stints in between at Philmore Heating & Air Conditioning and working with his brothers at Van Crafters.
He was extremely thankful for many other family members and friends in his life who filled his cup to overflowing.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation will be held at Daniels Family Funeral Services on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
