Robert P. Boyle passed away on January 27, 2011 at age 90 from natural causes. Robert was residing near family in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the time of his death. Robert was born on July 29, 1920 in Eveleth, Minnesota to Patrick and Eleanor Patten Boyle. Robert was a veteran of World War II and served in the Air Force as a cryptographer and flight instrument instructor. In postwar years, he was employed by the University of Minnesota in several capacities, principally radio and television. He retired as Resident Manager of the Forestry and Biological Station at Itasca State Park and moved to Bemidji, Minnesota where he and his wife were active in community affairs serving on the Bemidji Planning and Charter Commissions. Robert was an accomplished golfer who competed in local tournaments and also enjoyed the winter sport of curling. In 1943, he married his college sweetheart, Vera Chiodini, who survives him and they moved from Eveleth to St. Paul and raised their family.
Robert was preceded in death by his brother, James Boyle. Besides his wife, Vera, he is survived by his children, Patricia Gotch (Dan), Pacific Grove, CA, Katherine Wade (Bryan Baumeister), Albuquerque, Michael Boyle (Hon), Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Christopher Boyle, Anchorage, Alaska, two grandchildren, Timothy and Katherine Gotch, and one great grandchild.
