Robert Kelley Bruning was born January 1, 1942 to Flora M. Bruning and William A. Bruning Jr. in Lake Charles, LA.
He was the second of five children. Robert passed November 21, 2022 at Spanish Trails Rehabilitation in Albuquerque, NM. He made Albuquerque his home for 60 years. He had no children. He is survived by his eldest Brother Bill Bruning & wife Ann of Lake Charles, LA, a younger sister Katherine Morris and husband Buddy of Farmington, NM, his youngest sister Flora E. Bruning of Albuquerque, NM, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father William in 1967, his other sister Bonnie Buckhalt in 2017 and his mother Flora at age 105 in 2019.
Robert was a special needs member of the Albuquerque community. He worked as a custodian for Albuquerque ISD at El Dorado high school and a few others for many years. He also worked for Coronado Mall as a custodian. He worked for Paul's Monterrey Inn washing dishes and bussing tables for many years. Many people have seen him and his hunched shoulders and steady pace and have probably seen his ready smile. We called him Bobby. Bobby was a testament to self-reliance and hard work. He asked for nothing from people and simply wanted to be a part of the world he lived in. A cup of coffee at the Village Inn and talking about the people he knew, the mean ones and the kind ones, the difficulty of aging and doctors, or just back and forth teasing about girlfriends and relationships. He was simple and amazing. All we can ask as his family is that if you remembered ever seeing him, or you see someone like Bobby, love them, appreciate them, and let them know you appreciate them. That means more than most will ever know!
Rest Peacefully until we see you again Bobby.
