Eikleberry, Robert O. "Bob"
Age 82, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 after a long illness. His last hours were spent comfortably with his family, listening to Handel's Messiah, and in particular "Comfort Ye My People". Bob was born at home on the family farm, one of five children, near Milford, Iowa, on November 8, 1932. After serving in the Army and then graduating from the University of Iowa in 1959, he moved his family to Los Alamos, NM where he and Betty made it a home for the next 54 years. Bob spent 27 years teaching Genetics, Physiology and Biology at Los Alamos High School. He thoroughly enjoyed his students and the classroom and was a favorite among his students. He also served his community for two years as a Los Alamos County Councilman. During the summer months, he worked as a guide at Bandelier National Monument, as a research assistant at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and as a carpenter in town and on the Baca Ranch (now known as the Valles Caldera National Preserve). Bob loved the mountains and spent endless hours in the Jemez, hiking, fishing, scouting, hunting and also repairing fences for the ranchers on the Baca Ranch. Bob was preceded in death by his three sisters, Velva Mae Soat, Vera Wing, and Ruth Smith. He is survived by his wife, Betty; their two daughters, Deb Fletcher (Terry) and Mary Inman (John); four grandchildren, Darius Fletcher and Robert, Anne and Jessica Inman; and his brother, Bill (Lois).
