Robert Brian “Hank” Galligan Sr., 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 10, 2021. After a long struggle with illness, he passed so peacefully with his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy, by his side.
In addition to his wife, Hank is survived by their two sons, Robert “Bob” Galligan Jr. of Albuquerque, Richard “Rick” Galligan of Santa Fe, and daughter Donna (Galligan) Lyons of Colorado Springs, as well as six grandchildren. (He is predeceased by his daughter, Laura Galligan)
Hank was born in Taunton, Massachusetts on September 4, 1933, to Frank & Hilda Galligan. He was the second youngest of nine children. He grew up in Taunton and then joined the U.S. Navy at age 18 where he served on an aircraft carrier.
Thereafter, Hank joined the U.S. Air Force and worked as an aircraft engine mechanic and supervisor. He faithfully served in Vietnam and was honorably retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1972.
Hank then worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office (Manzano Station) for 20 years where he was enjoyed and appreciated by those he served on his route.
Hank was a quiet and gentle man with a silly sense of humor. He had a fierce love for Jesus, and was passionately dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren, his country, and his and Nancy’s best friends, Wilfred and Carmen.
Additionally, Hank loved to golf and had his first and only hole-in-one at age 80. He was also an active bowler for many years, and a devoted Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan.
While his family and friends mourn his passing, they also joyfully celebrate that he is now in the presence and glory of God.
A private service and interment will be held at a future date.
