Robert K. “Bud” Light Sr. reported to his next duty station on January 15th, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. Bud was an active member of his community, a member of Hope in the Desert Episcopal church, and was president of the Stonehenge HOA in Rio Rancho for 8 years. Bud was a very good guitarist, though he never learned to read music. He could play any string instrument “By ear”, even if he had never tried to play it before. He was a huge fan of Star Trek, John Wayne, and Elvis Presley. Bud was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving on and off from 1959 to 1989. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC/E-7) before his medical retirement in 1989. He served during the Vietnam War in Korea and Laos and served as an Active Duty NCO with the Army Reserves in Albuquerque and Santa Fe during the 1980s. After his retirement, he was actively involved with the New Mexico Gunfighter's Association, performing in Old Town and also serving as an armorer for several movies in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area. He was very proud that he got to train Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan in the proper use of black powder pistols. Bud was preceded in death by his father, Robert G. Light, his mother, Mamie Fritz Light, his sister, Joan Bednorz, and his son, Robert Kenneth Light II. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Antonia Miera Light, and by his children, Teri Cole, Debi Cade, Valarie Burdick, Susie Anderson, and Karen Lorenz; also by his stepchildren, Jeff Koehler and his wife Juliann, and Vickie Averhoff and her husband Jeff. He also has 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A visitation will be on January 23, 2025, at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM from 9:00am until 10:00am. A Funeral Service will follow at 10:00am also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Vista Verde Memorial Park immediately following the services. Bud would like to remind anyone who needs him that he has an administrative assistant, her name is Helen Waite, so if you need him any time soon, please go to Helen Waite.
