Robert Ralph "Buster" Dial, age 90 of Aztec, passed away Sunday March 29, 2009 at Four Corners Good Samaritan Village in Aztec. Buster was born November 29, 1918, in Aztec, to Cecil C. Dial and Elsie L. (Dusenbery) Dial. Mr. Dial was a lifelong resident of Aztec and graduated from Aztec High School in 1936. After graduation he attended trade school in Los Angeles and then took a position with North American Aviation, constructing aircraft in California. During the war he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served his country in Burma as a communications technician. In 1947 he returned to Aztec where he opened and operated Dial Hardware with his father until they sold the business in 1963. He became a commissioned agent for Conoco until 1977 when he created Dial Oil Company. He was active in the business until his retirement. Buster was a past president of the Aztec Kiwanis Club, a former chief of the Aztec Volunteer Fire Department, and a past commander of the VFW Aztec post. He is survived by his wife Carla Dial of Aztec; two sons, Richard Dial and wife Theresa of Aztec, and Ronald Dial and wife Sue of Farmington; one brother Edward Dial and wife Anna of Farmington; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Dial was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Elsie Dial and his beloved wife of 45 years, Dorothy P. (LePlatt) Dial. Pallbearers will be Jared Dial, Keith Dial, Mike Ashbaker, David Dusenbery, Bobby Dusenbery and Billy Dusenbery. In lieu of flowers or food the family requests contributions be made to the Aztec Fire Department, 200 South Ash, Aztec, NM 87410.
