Robert K Thomson

Robert K. Thomson, 84 years of age, passed away October 10, 2019.  Remembered as a cowboy, soldier, loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was born on a dry farm in Burdett, Kansas on May 31, 1935, and raised in Nucla, Colorado.  Bob's youth was spent working for the Blackburn ranch, driving cattle to and from the high country (the Lone Cone area) to the valley ranch.  Bob attended and graduated from Nucla High School before he joined and served three years in the U.S. Army – stationed in Korea & Japan.  After the Army, Bob attended and received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern California, then worked in journalism, and the electronics industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. Whatever free time he could find was spent ocean fishing, in addition to backpacking and fishing in the Sierra Nevada, often with his brothers, nephews and his son. He was an avid reader, especially of Ernest Hemingway, but would read anything and everything. He was a sensitive soul, a political thinker, stoic.  The streams, canyons and mountains of his Colorado youth were never far from his mind, and in 2004 he did not pass up the chance to return to the area where he lived the final years of his life, first in Moab, Utah, and later reuniting with the love of his life in Albuquerque, N. Mex. He is survived by his wife Elsie Lee “Muzzy” of Albuquerque, his sister Elaine Washington and brother John (Michelle) both of Grand Junction, Colo., his brother Tom (Tonya) of San Dimas, Calif., his brother Eddy of Montrose, Colo., and his son Romin (Poupak) of Menlo Park, Calif., two grandchildren, Ella and Holden, as well as his stepdaughters Shawna (Frankie) and Rhonda (Carl), and his stepsons Derk (Birdie) and Stephen. Robert was preceded in death by his father Edwin Keith Thomson, his Mother Minnie Thomson, and his brother Wilford Lincoln Thomson.

A small memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at 10:00am, at the rest area adjacent to the Kane Springs Picnic Area on U.S. Highway 191, south of Moab.
