Roger Alan Chall

December 15, 1951 — March 28, 2025

Roger Alan Chall was born December 15, 1951, in Royal Oak, Michigan and passed away on March 28, 2025 at his home in Rio Rancho, NM. He was a beautiful baby and won a place in the local Gerber Baby Derby in 1952. As an infant, he suffered a head injury that resulted in cerebral palsy. He learned to walk and play with the help of physical therapists and his big brother, Robert, though he never regained use of his left hand. That never stopped him from living his life to its fullest. He moved with his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1959 as a young child where he and his siblings explored the desert, got into mischief and made lifelong friends. He was always ready to have fun. He had a taste for adventure and enjoyed sharing21 stories about hang gliding, riding in a hot air balloon and taking flying lessons. Even late into his life, he wanted to bungee jump and zip line. He drove a standard transmission vehicle for much of his life and always liked having a shiny and well-maintained car.

Roger completed studies in accounting through the International Accountants Society and Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute. He worked in accounting at Sunbell Corporation, H&R Block, the University of New Mexico and for the Civil Service in various roles from for the US Air Force Contract Management Directorate from 1982 until his retirement in 2017. Roger earned many performance awards and was formally recognized numerous times for cost-saving suggestions and improving the agency’s efficiency. He had a strong work ethic and was liked and respected by his coworkers. Roger was an avid dog lover and had many cherished furry family members over the years. He started a dog sitting service to supplement retirement income and to spend time with animals after his own beloved dogs had passed. He made new friendships both human and canine through his business that meant the world to him. As a naturally social person, Roger was an important participant with New Mexico Guns during his retirement. He was invaluable at trade shows, assisting in sales, setup, and public relations with customers and other vendors.

Though Roger never married or had children of his own, he was a family man. He loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews very much. He never missed an opportunity to hug them or tell them that he loved them. On birthdays, his call or text was the first thing they would wake up to in the morning. On holidays, he was first to arrive. He was always there when his family and friends needed him from lending a hand to lending his truck. As a young man, he could have spent his vacations traveling or chasing adventure but instead he chose to spend time with his nieces and nephew. From exploring the mountains, horseback riding, off roading, bowling and mini golfing to playing poker, backgammon and watching Top Gun on repeat or laughing at silly jokes, he enjoyed spending time with them. Even though he preferred country music he listened to their favorite 90s music and never once complained that he didn’t like it. He taught each of them to drive both standard and automatic vehicles on paved and dirt roads. He went to band concerts and art exhibitions. He celebrated their successes, felt their failures and encouraged them to keep trying. He signed every birthday card: Love you always!!

We love you always Uncle Roger.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Veva Ford and Robert Chall, Sr. and siblings Thomas Chall and Dawn Chall. He is survived by his brother Robert Chall, Jr (Robin), sister-in-law Laura Hartsock, nieces: Leah Chall Carrillo, Deonna Caso (Jason), Cynthia Chall Silva (Ben), nephew Christopher Chall (Stephanie), 10 great nieces and 3 great nephews.
