Retired Chief Master Sergeant Ronald William Hinson went to join our Heavenly Father on August 31, 2016. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 6, 1936 to James Hinson and Clementine Smith. He graduated from Northern High School, Detroit, Michigan in 1954, and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 where he served faithfully for 30 years.
Ronald Hinson graduated Magna Cum Laude (3.81 GPA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources Administration and a minor in Management Information Systems from Saint Leo College, Hampton, VA, June 24, 1989. He was president of the Sigma Lambda Chi chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity; Vice President of the Student Senate; and a member of the Delta Epsilon Sigma National Scholastic Honor Society. He received the Saint Catherine Medal from Kappa Gamma Pi National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society and was selected to the National Dean’s list while attending Webster University for his Masters Degree in Human Resources Development. Ronald graduated with honors (4.0 GPA) from this Program in 1994. He was initiated into Nu Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in 1996.
After serving 30 years in the Military, Ronald Hinson began work as a Supervisor at Intel Corporation in 1994, and retired in 1999. After his retirement, he was busier than ever with a variety of community projects. He was elected as Chairman of the Board of the first African American Chamber of Commerce in New Mexico in 2004 and published the “News You Can Use” e-newsletter. He served in various offices and roles for the following organization: Albuquerque Branch NAACP, New Mexico Black Leadership Conference, Charlie Morrissey Scholarship Committee, Juneteenth Celebration Committee, Star Council Project – UNM Health Services, Legal Aid Society of NM, Law Access NM, Rio Rancho Branch NAACP, NM Chapter of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), African American Day at the State Legislature Council, and NM First 22nd Town Hall Task Force on Public School Reform. Ronald received the Reverend Dr. King Community Service Award in 2005, and was a 32nd degree Prince Hall Mason. He generously volunteered wherever needed.
He loved and served the Lord as an active member of God’s House Church in Albuquerque. Ronald served as a Sunday School Teacher for the adult class, President of the Ambassadors for Christ and was a welcome site to members and visitors as a greeter on the door.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Earmond Hinson; his brother-in-law, Tommie Jewell, Sr. of Albuquerque, NM; his son, Sean Hinson and wife Andrea Hinson of Laurel, MD; three step-children, Doris Harrison, Jackie Matthews – Arbuckle and husband Michael Arbuckle, Sr. all of Chandler, AZ and Jonathan Williams and wife Christine Williams of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Josiah Hinson, Brittney Williams, Larissa Matthews, and Katrina Williams; one great-grandchild, Brooklyn Barnes; two nieces, Michelle Jewell-Hayden of Albuquerque, NM and Mattie Coleman of Houston, TX ; one nephew, Tommy Jewell and wife Angela Jewell of Albuquerque, NM; two cousins; Edward Landrum of Detroit, MI and Carolyn McGee of New Jersey, and a host of extended family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Wyoming Chapel, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at God's House Church, 2335 Wyoming NE.
