Ken passed on October 28, 2019 a few weeks after his 76th birthday, in Albuquerque, NM, following a two year battle with muscular dystrophy. He was born in Charleston, SC, the only son of Joseph Rudolph Sharpton and Doris Elaine Monteith. Even though he was born with Cerebral Palsy, he was very outgoing and lived a full and happy life. He had many friends and knew and visited with all his neighbors. His passions were art and music. His mother taught him to read music and to play the guitar. He also spent many happy hours at his workbench fixing his wheelchairs and making wooden objects. Ken enjoyed bird-watching, being in the outdoors, and visiting with his family. With an assistant, he traveled to Las Vegas, NV, to Nashville, TN, and to local casinos for concerts. While he lived with his mother most of his life, the last ten years of his life he resided in a supported living home and very much enjoyed the day program he attended during the week and the weekend outings the residents took, especially when they went to his favorite restaurants!
Ken was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his sister, Sarah Ellen Sharpton, of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his Aunts, Francis June Mannos and Janice Monteith, and many cousins. He requested that no services be held and that his ashes be placed in the Rose Garden at Vista Verde Cemetery, in Rio Rancho, NM. Ken was a very special person and will be greatly missed. He will remain forever in our hearts.
