Ronald Lester Orr

Ronald Lester Orr-April 4, 1927-Oct 19, 2009 Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Ron Orr, 82 of Bloomfield, died Monday October 19 th 2009 at Good Sam's Nursing home in Aztec. He was born April 4, 1927, at Briggsdale CO. The son of Lester and Clara Orr, at the ranch house North of Briggsdale, CO. Growing up Ron attended school in Briggsdale, Later Campion academy in Loveland CO. Ron spent 2 years at Union College in Lincoln NE, but had to return to the farm due to his mother's illness. He was called to serve during the Korean War, March of 1951.He was stationed with the 7th Medical division in Korea. His work carried him back and forth to the line from a distance of 3 miles. He received the Korean Service medal, the United Nations service medal and the Bronze Star medal, awarded for bravery; it is the fourth highest combat award of the US Armed Forces. Ron spent the next 31 years on the family farm as a rancher and had a home for foster children. In 1987 the farm homesteaded by his grandmother, was sold and he moved to Greeley CO. He worked at the Greeley building as a maintenance man, and Lockhart construction and Kenton Manor Nursing Home. In 1979, he married Sharon Lyons and later moved to Bloomfield in 1998, to be with family. Ron loved his garden, working in his work shop, love to jeep, telling jokes and playing dominoes. Even after his stroke, he loved to sing along with the people that came up to see him from church, and play the guitar for him. Even though Ron couldn't talk he always had a smile and wave to everyone at the nursing home. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Lois Bartling; a daughter Jackie Collins. He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Bloomfield; Daughter Joyce (Ivan) Kingham of Norton Ks; Linda(Verlyn) Wehling of Fairberry NE;Jenni(Braum) VanHerwaarden of Aztec NM Son David(Nancy) Orr of Greeley CO. Sister Ethlyn Pierson of Torrington WY. 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
