Rose Mary Herrick-Stone-Peterson, long time Greeley/Kersey/Eaton resident, passed away on Saturday after a long term debilitating illness. Upon her death she was in nursing care in Manzano Del Sol Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Albuquerque, New Mexico where her oldest daughter Jill, a nurse herself, would visit each day to watch over her mother?s care. The care that Rose Mary received in this loving facility was precious. Rose Mary was a long time member of St. Peter?s Catholic Church and active in the church and the school, while her children attended the St. Peters School, which at the time was across from the church. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a school event/bazaar never failed to have her wonderful cinnamon pecan rolls as a treat. Rose Mary excelled in sales for Montfort packing and Montfort provisions in the 60?s and 70?s a time when women weren?t considered quite capable of selling meat on the hoof, which was a highly competitive market. She proved many doubters wrong with her quick wit and personal caring style for all customers. She was also active in the Colorado Restaurant association at that time, serving as Secretary of that association at one time. She was often found dining in one of her customer establishments espousing quality beef at the same time. Later on she relinquished the hectic sales end for a time on the Montfort switchboard. This was an instrument she was familiar with as during WWII she was the lead security communications operator at the Denver Center which monitored and transferred calls form Los Alamos to Washington DC. A position needing top security clearance. She was very proud of those accomplishments She returned to her home town of Arlington, SD in the 1980's and found love again with a friend of her brother's from high school. Rose married Leroy Peterson and lived on the farm outside Arlington for close to ten years. Rose was able to visit her mother Jude and take her to city caf?© and church in her later years. The grand children loved to go to the farm see all the cows and ride the tractor mower. She also exhibited the same pride while raising of her 4 children and her many grandchildren. She was a special person who found time for many interests and when she was part of any conversation, you could always count on it to be interesting. In her later years she enjoyed traveling and cruises with friends and visiting her grandchildren and of course just.talking. She was preceded in death by her long time husband "Stoney 3 sisters and also a brother who died in WWII while piloting a B-17 mission. She is survived by her 4 children Tom of Medford, Ore. Jerry of Denver. Jill of Alb and Jaci of Loveland. Six adult grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Private Services are scheduled for family only on 4/8/2012.
