Chavira, Roy T.
Age 86, lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM went home to be with our Lord and Savior Thursday, October 11, 2012. Roy was born in Barelas to his now deceased parents, Jose and Elisa Chavira. Roy bravely served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in San Diego, CA, Vallejo, CA and Japan. He graduated from both, Albuquerque High School and Browning Commercial School; worked for the U.S. Post Office as a Mail Carrier; Captain of A.H.S Basketball team; A.H.S state golf champion 1944. Roy was a school crossing guard; a great golfer; an usher for the San Felipe Neri Catholic Church in Old Town; volunteered at both the North Valley and Los Volcanes Senior Centers; a member of American Legion Post 72 and the Mail Carriers Union. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Anna Chavira-Huff; son, Michael Roy Chavira; grandson, Freddie Chavira; son-in-law, John M. Baca; brothers, Ralph, Herman, Willie Chavira; baby sister, Nena; Godparents, Ana and Rolando Robles; brother-in-law, Manuel Cortez and Godson Mikey Moya. Roy is survived by his children, Fred Chavira, Joe Chavira (Irma), Constance Baca, Bernadette Chavira-Merriman (Gil), Maria Bohlken (Jim); brother-in-law, Rick Huff; four sisters, Mary Louise Chavira, Carmen Nunez (Paul), Lucy Martinez (Tony), Dolores Cortez; grandchildren, Nathan (Fawn) and Tim Bohlken, Carlos Merriman, Jonathan Paul, Jayson, Marcos (Stephanie) and Joao Chavira, Michael Baca (Magda), John Steven Baca (Irene); great-grandchildren, Gerry Bohlken, Jaycob, Elena, Marisol, Cassius and Jonathan James Chavira, Devin, Alexis, Dominique, Clarissa, Anna Maria and Antonio Luis Baca; best friends, Benjamin Serna, Henry Gabaldon, Joe Rey and numerous other extended family and friends. A Visitation and Rosary took place yesterday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church, 2005 North Plaza SW at 11:00 am; Inurnment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery Monday, October 22, 2012 at 12:45 pm.
