Roy Edward Schiesl was born on October 10, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the oldest child born to Ray and Irene Schiesl and his siblings include a sister Elaine and a brother Bob who still live in Wisconsin. Roy attended Washington High School and graduated in 1952. He then went directly to electrician school and after 5 years as an apprentice he graduated with an electrician's journeyman license. He met Arlene Paradowski in 1956 and they were married on October 22, 1960. Their daughter Jill was born in October 1961. A second daughter Amy was born in August 1965 but sadly she passed away from a heart defect in October 1965. Two more sons followed: Michael born August 1966 and Andrew born August 1971. In 1964 Roy and a partner started their own electrical contacting company called Central Electric. In 1976 he bought a neon sign manufacturing company called Empire Sign Company and successfully ran both businesses until he retired in 1990. In 1998 Roy and Arlene moved to Albuquerque to take advantage of the wonderful weather and lack of mosquitoes. Jill and her husband Randy and their two children Kevin and Kelly (now 18 and 15) had moved to Albuquerque in 1997. Roy and Arlene enjoyed visits from Andrew and from Michael and his wife Tammy and their children Nicholas and Nathan (now 11 and 9). They also adopted a mixed terrier named Molly and she has been a constant companion since 2000. Roy and Arlene took advantage of their retirement by belonging to the senior center, taking classes in tin punching and pottery, carving kachina dolls, going swimming, watching Kevin and Kelly play soccer, house boating in Washington and Minnesota, visiting Wisconsin, watching Nicholas and Nathan play baseball, enjoying the Balloon Fiesta, dining out in Old Town on Christmas Eve, attending conferences on aging, attending plays at Popejoy, Albuquerque Little Theater and the Adobe theater, going out to eat, and visiting friends in Las Cruces. In the past two years Roy's health had declined and for the last 11 months he had been staying at a rehabilitation nursing home very close to home. However recently he was making great progress in regaining his mobility and was able to come home for a visit on Christmas Day to be with family. Unexpectedly, he slipped into a coma Wednesday morning. He never regained consciousness at the hospital and passed away peacefully that evening December 30th at 5pm. Roy was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend and we will be missed by friends and family in Wisconsin and New Mexico. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Roy's name to the Albuquerque Humane Society.
