Ruby J. Carter

August 6, 1928 — June 8, 2016

RUBY JANE LACKEY CARTER, age 87, completed her journey on this earth, Wednesday, June 8, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Carter Bonnett of Albuquerque, her half-sister, Wanda Mae Wood of Belen, New Mexico, and her very special nephews, Ray Husband of Las Cruces, NM, Thomas Husband of Montana, David Husband of California and one very special niece, Beverly Husband of California.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Carter, her sister, Ruth Alice Davidson and a half-brother Willie Raymond Lackey.

Her life’s journey began in Corona, New Mexico on August 6, 1928 when she was welcomed into this world by her proud parents, Lucy Radde Lackey and Raymond Lackey. Two years later, she was blessed with a baby sister, Ruth Alice Lackey.  Ruth became her closest companion when their mother died from pneumonia in 1936. The two girls went to live with their Grandmother, Ethel Lackey.  She grew up learning how to work hard and be a strong, determined woman who could survive almost anything life threw at her. In 1945 she married Ralph Carter and they settled in the Estancia Valley.  Hard times hit the valley and so they picked up and began traveling throughout New Mexico, working on cattle ranches. There only daughter Claudia Ruth was  born In 1948.  In 1951 they moved to Albuquerque and here she remained for the last 65 years of her life.  She and Ralph were married for 63 years before his death in 2008. Those 63 years were filled with love and patience. She was a full time homemaker and loving mother extraordinaire. She loved to cook and was never too busy to have friends and family over for a delicious home cooked meal. She was an excellent quilter and made many beautiful, hand sewn quilts, each with a tiny bit of herself  sewn into each block.  She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and sewing. Many of her beautiful projects adorn her family and friends homes. She was a very strong, positive woman and no matter how she felt, when she was asked how she was, her reply was always, “just fine”. She touched and graced many lives over her 87 years and will be loved and remembered by everyone as a kind, loving woman who always had time for others.

Daniels Family Funeral Services-Wyoming Chapel will handle the cremation and a memorial service, will be planned sometime in the future.
