Ryan Eugene Buzzard

Ryan Eugene Buzzard, age 64, passed away peacefully among family on January 5, 2017 in Rio Rancho, NM. Ryan is survived by his wife Deborah Buzzard, married 41 years; his children Erin Cato, Michael Buzzard (fiance Lynn Wetzel), and Kyle Buzzard (wife Katherine Buzzard), as well as his four grandchildren, Isabel Cato, Alison Cato, Natalie Cato, and Elijah Buzzard. He is also survived by his father Donald Buzzard (wife Bonnie), sister Donis Laine (husband Daren Laine) and 6 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Lois Buzzard.
Ryan was born in Huntington, IN on August 3, 1952 and was a member of the Meshingomesia band of the Miami Nation of Indians, with the tribal name of Pa-Pa-Quan, meaning Little Fox. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelors in Science and a Masters in Secondary Administration. Ryan began his career as a landscaper and designer, was a beloved educator and coach in Fort Wayne, IN as well as Shonto, AZ on the Navajo Reservation, and an account manager for a pharmaceutical company while in Goose Creek, SC. He had a passion for science, using a holistic approach, with a special love for geology and the natural sciences.
Ryan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a wonderful provider, a skilled handyman, a frequent road-tripper, a music cranker, a big bear-hugger, and had a goofy sense of humor and calming demeanor that inspired laughter, lightheartedness, confidence, and unity.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10 at 10:30am at Daniel’s Family in Rio Rancho, NM. Family and friends are welcome to attend to celebrate Ryan’s life. Flowers can be sent to Deborah Buzzard or instead, charitable donations can be sent to Salvation Army, the National Park Service, or your local law enforcement and first responders. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love, and support.
