Age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday October 5, 2012 surrounded by her family at her side praying the rosary. Sadie was a wonderful mother, exceptional wife and an amazing woman of faith. She was born on April 17, 1923 to Tranquilino and Julianita Chavez. Sadie was blessed with a loving childhood and big loving family of many brothers and sisters. Sadie was the eldest of 7 children. Sadie married Raymond V. Mares of 61 years on June 17, 1946 at St. Francis Catholic Church. She placed God, family, community and her country above all else. Sadie was active and dedicated member of several catholic churches: Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church; John XXIII Catholic Community Church; Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. She was also a member of several church organizations: CCD teacher; Member of the altar Rosary Society; Member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; Auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. She ministered communion to her husband Raymond V. Mares during his courageous battle with cancer. Her life and love was to all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored and cared for all her life. All her children and grandchildren had special names for her: Roadrunner, Granny Goose, Gramie. She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, gardener, caretaker, everyone loved her humor and she always made someone laugh. She loved to dance and enjoyed her Spanish music. She found time for her community and was the precinct chairwoman. She drove her children and their friends to school activities and functions and made sure they were safe. She was preceded in death by her parents Tranquilino and Julianita Chavez; daughter Sadie Marie Mares; husband Raymond V. Mares, brothers; Joe and Richard; sisters Fannie, Rose, Carmen. Sadie is survived by her children; son Raymond Daniel Mares (Alberta) of Albuquerque; daughter Julie Ann Montoya and husband Thomas of Los Lunas; son John William Mares and wife Jeanette of Albuquerque; daughter Rosemary Anderson and husband John of Albuquerque. She has 14 grand children and 26 great grand children. She is also survived by her brother Joe W. (Billie) Chavez and her brother-in-law Ernest (Ernie) Chavez both of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law Ruth Shawler of Long Beach CA and Espidiona (Speedie) Chavez of Albuquerque. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 3:00 pm ��?? 5:00 pm Rosary to be recited at 5:00 pm in Daniels Family Funeral Services, Strong-Thorne Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery following the Mass.
