Atencio, Samuel  Jr.
Age 82, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Socorro, NM on April 22, 1934, to  Samuel F. and Adella (McCullough) Atencio.  Sam grew in Socorro and graduated from Socorro High School where he was active in several sports.  He joined the US Air Force where he served his country proudly for 4 years. Sam worked for Dyncorp and retired after many years of service. He was also the Machinist Business Rep. for the White Sands Missile Range. Sam was a very kind, humble, and generous person and adored his family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Sam was a member of the Socorro Men's Golf Assoc. and loved to play golf with his family and also his many golfing buddies. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Jeanette. They were together for 64 years including the 46 years they were married. Sam will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Francine Muniz; and brother-in-law, George Salome.  Sam is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; his nephews who he considered as his sons, Pat Salome and wife, Melissa and Anton Salome and wife, Moniqua; his sister-in-law, JoAnn Salome and husband, Nick Sais; sister-in-law, Helen Salome; great nieces who considered him their "grandpa", Jonique, Mia, and Rylee; niece, Natalie Muniz Lopez; his sister, Ida Gallegos and husband, Larry; and his numerous golfing buddies. Rosary to be recited on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 8:30 am at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro with Mass of Resurrection to be celebrated at 9:00 am. Father John Anasiudu as Celebrant.  Burial will take place at  following service at the San Miguel Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Pat Salome, Anton Salome, Nick Sais, Jonique Sais, Mia Salome, and Paul Anaya.  Honorary pallbearers are Larry Gallegos, Jim Laws, Pete Sisneros and Rylee Salome.
