Sara S. (Granny) Marquez, resident of Albuquerque, NM, age 62, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015. She was born in Santa Fe, NM on March 16, 1953, to Juan and Minnie (Gonzales) Griego. She was preceded in death by her mother; brothers, John Griego, Charlie Griego; sister, Irma Maez; mother-in-law, Virginia Marquez. Sara is survived by her husband of 45 years, Pete Marquez, Sr; children, Pete L. Marquez, Jr. and wife, Jennifer K., Shan Marquez-Herrera, Mario Marquez and wife, Jennifer E., Isaac Marquez, all of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Alexis, Pete III (Trey), Rio, Sonia, Selena, Joey, Mario, Jr. (Diego), Isaiah, Matthew, Isabella, Leonidas; siblings, Mary Anne, Ernie, Eppie, Geno, Jimmy, Rick, Victor, and her pet, Chama. Sara attended Santa Fe High School and later married her husband, Pete, on June 6, 1970, in Santa Fe, NM. She was Part Owner of Pete's Equipment Repair Inc. Sara is remembered fondly as the greatest mom and granny who was always so vibrant. She loved her family to no end, and could light up a room just by her laughter. A visitation will be held at 6:00pm, with the recitation of the Rosary following at 7:00pm, on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, April 17, 2015, at Risen Savior Catholic Church, with a reception following at 12:00pm at American Legion Post 13, 1201 Mountain Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Inurnment will take place at 12:45pm, on Friday, April 24, 2015, at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501. In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Sara's honor to Special Olympics of New Mexico, sonm.org.
