Shawna Bridget (Dudley) MacNeil

We are sorry to announce that Shawna Bridget (Dudley) MacNeil, 59, has gone to the lord with her loving family by her side. Despite a courageous effort to survive, Shawna departed from an aggressive form of uterine cancer ten months after a delayed diagnosis. Shawna was born July 5, 1964, in San Jose, CA to Russell and Marianne (Misley) Dudley. She graduated from Arcata High School in 1982. In 1983, while visiting her sister stationed in Frankfurt Germany, she met her future husband, now retired staff sergeant J. Douglas MacNeil. After a short engagement, on January 12th, 1984, they married in Copenhagen, Denmark and have been married 40 years. When back in the states, while raising three young daughters, Shawna earned her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, from the University of New Mexico in 1998 - leading to a 21 year career as a passionate and knowledgeable pharmacist, in which 16 years were spent at the Kirtland Air Force Base Pharmacy. 

Shawna loved to travel visiting Paris, Athens, the island of Crete, Venice, Rome, Naples, the Amafi coast, and Faicchio, Italy. She loved taking summer vacations to San Diego, RV trips throughout the southwest and yellowstone, and ski trips in Colorado and New Mexico. Shawna also loved shopping, home decor, spa days, baking shows, camping, and most of all spending time with family. Oh, and prosecco, but maybe not in that order. 

She is survived by her husband, J. Douglas MacNeil of Rio Rancho, N.M., and her daughters Sara MacNeil (law school) and Shelley MacNeil (PhD in Oncology) of Albuquerque, NM, Samantha & Tu Pham (both PharmD) of Durango, CO, and Desi'Ray Tolson (entrepreneur), of Grants Pass, OR. Shawna is also grandmother to Evelyn Pham (due in December) and family dogs Steezy, Kazu, and Lucy. She leaves behind four siblings Brian, Kathey, Jeanette, and Frances, along with two sister-in-laws Cathy and Debbie. Her nieces and nephews are Courtney, Julia, Nathan, Jimmy, Steven, Melissa, Danielle, Miranda, Jet, Timmy, Jessica, and Christina. Shawna was preceded in death by her parents Russell & Barbara Dudley, her brother Leo, mother-in-law Shirley, and family dog Taco. She will be deeply missed by her best friends Laura, Angela, Desiree, and Sherry.

Shawna will be remembered for being a caring and selfless mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and co-worker to the many who love her. She had a generous and open heart, warmly welcoming all walks of life into her life, home, and family. There is a funeral mass scheduled for Shawna at 10:30 a.m. June 21 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho, NM 87124. There is also a burial service scheduled for Shawna at 11 a.m. June 25 at Santa Fe National Veterans Cemetery.
