Bailey, Shirley Ruth 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Big Spring, Texas on the Dement family farm on January 12, 1922 to Albert Miller and Olive Cleo (Dement) Hawk. Shirley was a long-time resident of Socorro. When she was a girl she lived in Pie Town. She was a Rosie-the-Riveter during World War II. In 1955 she met the love of her life while she was a waitress at Shirley's Cafe here in Socorro. She was the most loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed rock collecting, gardening, and horseback riding. Shirley was especially fond of raising her peacocks at the family home and loved her baby goats, Nancy and Cutie Pie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Robert Hawk; and Albert Miller "Jack" Hawk Jr.; her sisters, Ruby Lee Duletsky; and Neva Nelle Cook Mitchell; and her beloved grandson, Kerry Stephen Hicks. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard Keith Bailey; her devoted children, Olivia Shirleen Bretz and husband, Robert E.; William A."Bill" Bailey and Charlene Coles; Theodore Charles "Ted"Bailey and wife, Judy; and Elizabeth Lee Winterrowd and husband, David; her sister, Mary Luwilda Fletcher and husband, William; and many other loving family members and close friends. Shirley was also very proud of her grandchildren, Suzanne Elizabeth Surratt and husband, Rusty; David Roy Hicks and wife, Michelle; David Mark Bailey and wife, Meg; Tisha Lanette Webb and husband, Derry; Keith Ray Bailey and wife, Jean; Tiffany Rebekah Hymel and husband, Chad; Samantha Nicole Parker and husband, Tim; and Travis Andrew Winterrowd and wife, Nicole; and twenty great grandchildren.The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Socorro Church of Christ, 1001 El Camino Real, Socorro. Interment will be held in the Socorro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Bailey, Ted Bailey, David Hicks, David Bailey, Keith Bailey, and Travis Winterrowd. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Shirley's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
