Albuquerque, NM lost a beloved member of our community on April 22, 2021. Shirley Shaw Hunton, loving wife and mother of three passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the age of 85.

Shirley was born in Stanfield, TX on May 23, 1935 to Himer Moore and Mattie Mary Davis. She was the fifth out of six children; 4 boys and 2 girls. Shirley graduated from Henrietta High School in 1952. Soon after, she married Maxell “Mac” Shaw and together, they raised three beautiful children.

During the next chapter of her beautiful life, Shirley met Jimmy Hunton, who not only became her beloved husband, but her best friend, her supporter, and her partner in all her adventures.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Himer and Mattie Davis; siblings, Frank Davis, Marvin Davis, Corky Davis, and Peggy Rogers; and her former spouse, Maxell “Mac” Shaw.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Jimmy Hunton; children, Maxell “Monty” Shaw Jr. (Maryann), Rhonda Shaw Brown (Lyle), Odell Shaw (Linda); Step-children, Jim Hunton (Theresa), and Curtis Hunton (Laurie). She is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, Leslie, Lisa, Jeremy (Angelic), Clay, Danna (Tate), Willis (Karen), Justin (Angela), Tracey, Eric (Katie), Shelby (Brian), Peyton, and Coleton; 26 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sibling, Larry (Maryann); Daughter-in-laws Dianna and Deanna; Son-in-law John; Sister-in-law Beth Savory (Kent); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Throughout her life, Shirley was an entrepreneur, managing businesses: a mobile home business and surplus, horse racing and Alameda Horse Stables. She was one of the hardest working women. She always had a warm smile and a friendly word for everyone. She had a passion for horses and loved dancing; which is where she was blessed to meet her husband Jimmy. Their connection was special and they genuinely enjoyed each other’s company.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Sandia Memory Gardens 9500 San Pedro Dr. NE Albuquerque, NM 87113. A viewing at the gazebo will begin from 1:15-2:00, followed by a service and burial. Pallbearers are Monty Shaw, Odell Shaw, Curtis Hunton, Jim Hunton, Jeremy Shaw, Justin Shaw and Eric Brown.
