Simpson, Shirley
Was born in a small steel mill town of Braddock, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1932. The moment she entered the world, it became a prettier, more peaceful place.
Her parents, Edward and Ida Rowland, would have one more child 9 years later and name him Eddie. Shirley loved her little brother, she treated him as if he was her very own baby.
They soon moved to Swissvale, Pennsylvania where she attended school and graduated near the top of her class, in 1950. Shirley was described by her peers as friendly, kindhearted, well liked and bright. Her high school yearbook lists her on the honor roll for every semester for all four years of school. Shirley would often talk about her fondness for attending school, her love of learning and her desire for knowledge.
Right after high school Shirley excitedly enlisted into the Woman’s Air Core, or WAC, and was stationed in Georgia, where she would meet her future husband, Charles Simpson.
They would get married in Texas in January of 1953 and in the next two years they would have two of the prettiest daughters on the planet, Sharyn and Teresa.
They lived in Texas together until 1970 when they divorced, and she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her youngest daughter, and that is where she lived happily ever after.
Her daughter Sharyn would marry a handsome man named Tom and together they raised two strapping sons, Troy and Mark. They would each marry and together gave Shirley 7 gorgeous great-grandchildren, Mikel, Sara, Leah, Colin, Christian, Gabrielle and Madeline.
Her daughter Teresa would marry a slightly less handsome, but still handsome man named Ray and they would have two cute children, their daughter Lindsay and son, John. Lindsay would have seven stunning children, Tyler, Kylin, Camille, Jillian, Cooper, Dodger and Duke.
Shirley earned a job she very much enjoyed, working for Xerox in 1970 and was a loyal, hardworking employee. Shirley was with the company for 34 years and during that time, made dear friends she always talked fondly of.
Once she retired she kept busy by visiting doing her favorite things, which included visiting her great grandchildren and many trips to Costco.
Shirley passed away at her daughter’s home on January 11, 2015. Shirley was her family’s sunshine. She was a beautiful, kind, successful and strong woman. She will be greatly missed and always remembered as a devoted mother, loving grandmother, sweet great grandmother, admirable co-worker and dear friend.
The greatest gift in life is to love and be loved. And, Shirley’s life was abundantly filled with both.
