Sixto Robert (Bob) Lopez, passed away August 15, 2020. He was born March 28, 1935 in Cebolla, New Mexico where he was raised by his grandparents Eloisa and Hipolito Lopez.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 51 years, daughters Susan and Lillian, sisters Hazel (Genaro) and Maida (Bob), and his beloved granddog Little Miss Sunshine. He is preceded in death by his daughter Cheryll Lopez, grandparents Eloisa and Hipolito Lopez, mother Rebecca Valdez, step father O’Neil Valdez, sisters Claudina Lopez and Jane Gray, brothers Eloy Lopez, Frank Valdez, and Daniel Valdez. Sixto was blessed to be the Godfather to Cristina Martinez, Kateri Z. Martinez, Ethan Miller, Andrew Pacheco, and Benjie Trujillo. He loved and was loved by many friends and relatives.
Sixto served honorably in the United States Navy and was a Life Member of the Union Local #823. He was also well respected for his work all across New Mexico as a job search specialist for NM Human Resources Development Institute where he assisted and supported a multitude of displaced workers. Sixto was a master craftsman and always generous with his talents, tools, and materials and built and repaired many projects, large and small, for friends and family. He especially loved working with wood, in fact, continued to chop his own wood for his woodstove until the age of 80. Sixto was a devout Catholic and together with his wife, volunteered daily at Queen of Heaven Church for 20 years as a Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Alter Rosary. Sixto was a humble, generous, and noble man who will be greatly missed.
A Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2532 Vermont St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Readings to be performed by dear friend Jacqueline Olexy. Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Honorary Pallbearers Sam Scott, Paul Lambert, Tony Martinez, Bob Peterson, Frank Ruiz, Aaron Martinez, and Eric Ramey.
