Soila Armijo

Armijo, Soila  
Age 89, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Hot Springs, NM on January 1, 1929, to  Vincent and Concepcion (Trujillo) Apodaca. Soila has been a resident of Socorro, NM for the past 60 years.  She was a woman who was strong in her faith and loved her family. She was a substitute teacher for over 30 years. Although she grew up in town, she became a rancher's wife which meant she had to rely on her creativity and resourcefulness to sustain a family cattle ranch, raise kids, and keep the family safe and healthy. She loved the outdoors, maintained a garden and was a fabulous cook. She always found time to volunteer to such worthy places as Tresco and the Thrift Store. Most of all, she loved children and when she was blessed with her own grandchildren, they gave her great joy and happiness. She enjoyed reading to them and eith them in the library, taught them crafts and showed them how to play and have fun as she was always young at heart. She was an eternal optimist and an incredibly strong willed woman. Soila will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Esequiel "Zeke" Armijo; daughter, Marcy Armijo; son, Dan Armijo; son, Baby John; and brother, Robert Apodaca.  Soila is survived by son, Jerry (Lillian) Armijo; grandchildren, Madalyn (Josh) Yafa, John Armijo and Joseph Armijo; sisters, Adelida Pittman, Leah Silva and Gloria (Tony) Ortega; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Armijo. The family would like to thank the quality and loving care of all the staff at Haven Care. Rosary to be recited on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 8:30 am at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real , Socorro with the Mass of Resurrection to follow at 9:00 am.  Celebrant Rev. John Anasiudu.  Burial will take place at San Miguel Catholic Cemetery following service.  Pallbearers will be John Armijo, Joseph Armijo, Josh Yafa, and Jerry Ortega.  A reception will be held immediately following the burial at the Garcia Opera House, 110 Abeyta Ave., Socorro.
