Sophie V. Naranjo

Age 87, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015. She was born in Alcalde, NM on January 12, 1928, to Santiago and Elena (Ortiz) Villareal. Sophie graduated from Espanola High School, and Rieds Business School with her Associates degree. She worked as a Career Development Specialist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 20 years.

She married S. Frank Naranjo on February 23, 1952 in Alcalde, NM, they were married for over 63 years. Sophie enjoyed bowling, dancing, sewing, and was also a guitarist. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Risen Savior Catholic Community, and a member of the church choir at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy, Julian, and Merce Villareal; sisters, Bernie Gomez, Ursulita Naranjo, and Odilia Romero. Her husband Frank passed away on August 27, 2015.

Sophie is survived by her daughter, Vanessa and Tony Hernandez of Albuquerque, NM; son, Matthew Naranjo of Espanola, NM; brothers, Albert Villareal of Albuquerque, NM, and Gilbert Villareal of Alcalde, NM; sisters, Mother Mary Louise of Santa Fe, NM, and Lucy Deesing of Albuquerque, NM;  grandchildren, Yana Naranjo of Albuquerque, NM, Daniel Naranjo of Espanola, NM, Brandon Hernandez of Houston, TX and Audriana Hernandez of Albuquerque, NM.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, September 4, 2015, at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Wyoming Chapel, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Reverend Timothy A. Martinez as celebrant.  Entombment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE, Albuquerque, NM.  Sophie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
