Stanley Chilton Smith

March 3, 1942 — April 14, 2009

Stanley Chilton Smith, 67, a resident of Farmington since 1957 passed from this life early Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at home with his family by his side. Stanley was born March 3, 1942 in Quanah, Texas the son of H. C. "Buddy" Smith and Frances Lucille (Wheat) Shepard. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1960 and later attended Texas Tech. Stanley owned and operated Southwest Roofing for 30 years. He loved playing golf, traveling, he could fix anything and most importantly was a fabulous cook. Stanley also enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. Stanley is survived by his wife of 35 years Sherry Smith; daughters Lyn Bopp and husband Eric of Longmont, Colorado and Kimberly Fortner of Farmington; 3 beautiful grandchildren whom he loved and adored, Cameron, Christopher and Gracie Ann; sister Marilyn Hollingsworth and husband Frank of Bayfield, Colorado stepbrothers and sisters Mary (Dub) Smith, David (Gail) Shepard, Joe Shepard, Martha (Don) Miller, Sid (Sheila) Shepard, Marcia (Arnold) Montoya and Paula (Kenny) Smith; and many dear friends. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and step-father OP "Shep" Shepard. Pallbearers are Larry Prettyboy, Harold Castillo, Roger Chee, Howard Deal, Michael Frank, and Albert Allen. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Pinion Hills Community Church, "Go All Out", 2400 N. Butler Ave., Farmington, NM 87401 or to Special Olympics, San Juan County, 8320 Hood Mesa Trail, Farmington, NM 87402. The family wishes to thank San Juan Oncology Staff and patients, Dr. Jim Neidhart and Dr. Jeff Neidhart, Dr. Rami Khouzam, Dr. George Payne, Dr. Suzanne Gray and the Guardian Angels.
