Stephen "Steve" Lee Welch

Welch, Stephen "Steve" Lee Age 66, passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, September 2, 2013 in Socorro, NM with his loving family by his side. He was born in San Antonio, TX on August 1, 1947, to Fred and Polly (Jackson) Welch. Steve's father was a career military man and the family lived in places such as England and the Philippines where Steve graduated from Wagner High School. He served his country as a US Marine and also served for a time in the Peace Corp in the early 70's. Steve graduated from the New Mexico School of Mines in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Steve was a member of the Socorro Masonic Lodge #9, St. Paul's United Methodist Church and enjoyed flying remote control airplanes. He was instrumental in organizing AYSO soccer in Socorro in the early 80's. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a friend to many. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Steve is survived by wife of 27 years, Susie Jean (Weber) Welch; his children: Stephanie O'Toole and husband, Matt, Katy Welch and fiance, Lony Cunningham, Nghia Ngo and wife, Michele, and Nick Welch and wife, Isabelle Mulin; sisters: Sherry Welch Thom, Marilyn Marquis, and Suzan Johnson and husband, Bo; grandchildren: Joshua, Gabriel and Andrew Ngo, and Jaxson O'Toole. A Celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 am at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1000 Goad, Socorro, with Pastor Reuben Thomas officiating.
