Rice, Tandy D.
Tandy Dalton Rice, age 85, passed away on Oct. 11, 2015. Tandy was born to Emmitt & Virginia Rice on Nov. 17, 1929 in Borger, TX. He grew up in Albuquerque, the son of a fire Chief, and graduated from Albuquerque High School. During the Korean War, he served his country as a corpsman in the US Navy. In 1952, he went to work for Mankin Homes where he learned his lifelong trade as a drywall and painting contractor. Starting his own company, “Tandy Rice Drywall & Painting” in the years to follow, he was well known for his quality work and honesty. As a young man, Tandy married Gloria Kipp and to their union, his children, Carol and Tom were born. He later married Barbara Bartick and adopted her 5 children (Eileen, Robin, Stacy, Scott & Kelly) from a previous marriage. A hard working man of virtue, with a delightful, playful sense of humor, the children couldn’t have asked for a better father figure in their lives. Tandy loved the outdoors and made numerous memories hunting & fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed the horse races and even raised race horses at one time. He shared a cabin with his brother George in the mountains of northern NM, and it was one of his favorite places on earth. With great compassion for animals, Tandy always had a beloved dog or cat at his side. Tandy is preceded in death by his parents Emmitt & Virginia Rice, by sister, Ruth Wade, and a grandson, Christopher Chisholm. He is survived by his brother, George Rice and wife Billie of Albuquerque, NM; and by his children, Carol Markey of Roy, NM, Thomas Rice of Albuquerque, NM, Eileen Chisholm & husband Clay of Atlanta GA, Robin Olterman & husband Greg of John Day, OR, Stacy Jaramillo of Santa Fe, NM, Scott Rice & wife Jill of Rio Rancho, NM, Kelly Rinaldi & husband Stephen of Los Alamos, NM.
