Later, he was sent to Vietnam in 1967 to 1969, serving as a heavy equipment operator at Phu Loc Quarry in Fubai Hue. The Quarry was the most valuable operation of its type and was of tremendous value in both civilian and military capacities, he said, "We built bridges and blew them up, we got shot at and we shot back." After being honorably discharged for his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a loving Father and Grandfather. A man of few words but the most generous heart. Our "Mr. Fix it", always there to get the job done at the drop of a dime. Always lending a helping hand. He was always on the go, forever finding a project to work on, with unstoppable energy and motivation until his very last days. He liked to spend his spare time with his family and friends, boating and fishing at Elephant Butte Lake.
He will be deeply missed.
