Thomas Russell Bond passed away on June 2, 2018, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Margaret Bond, and brother David and sister Ellen. Tom leaves behind his wife Tara, son Tommy, sisters Wendy, Sue and Barb, and many nieces and nephews. Tom was born March 12, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
When He was a little boy, he and and best friend, Jack Hammond, used to drive the neighbors crazy by bouncing their basketballs up and down the street on the way to the basketball court. Tom loved all sports and played basketball and football in high school. Tom attended high school at Brantford Collegiate Institute and went on to graduate from University of Waterloo with a Bachelor's of Mathematics degree. He found his way down to the United States where he met his wife, Tara, in 1996. It was love at first sight and they became engaged six months later. They married on April 19, 1997 at Saint Anastasia Catholic Church in Saint Augustine, Florida. When Tara became sick a year later and required a heart transplant, Tom was always by her side - he was her rock. He was a loving and caring husband, someone strong who you could always depend on. Several years later Tom and Tara travelled to Cambodia to adopt their son Tommy. Tom was a loving father to Tommy, and a great role model. He attended Cub Scouts, as well as basketball practices and games with Tommy. He and Tommy shared a mutual love of sports, and were always watching games on tv and talking about sports. Tom loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Boston Bruins. Tara spent years listening to this sports talk by the "two Tom's" as she referred to them, and can recite Tom's favorite sports phrase by heart: "Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player of all time!" (this phrase can also be recited by heart by Tom's three sisters!). Tom and Tara were members of Christ Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, where Tom loved volunteering selling and managing "script". Tom was a very friendly and personable guy, who had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He and Tara and Tommy loved living in Albuquerque. Tom and Tara would walk up the street from their house at night and love seeing the pink glow of the Sandia Mountains, as well as the stars popping out of the inky dark sky. Tom was the nicest, kindest man Tara ever met and she and Tommy will miss him dearly. Tara still calls his cell phone just to hear his voice and leave him a message: "I love you forever, Babe". And I will. - Tara Bond
