Thomas Harold McMullen died on Sept 17, 2024. He was born in Santa Rosa, NM on Feb 17, 1931 to W.H. and Johnnie Spiller McMullen. After graduating from Santa Rosa High School in 1948, he attended Eastern New Mexico University for three years. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951, at the height of the Korean conflict. At the end of his enlistment, he attended the University of New Mexico where he completed his degrees. In 1958, he began a 26-year career with APS. He retired in 1984 from Del Norte High School. From then, he spent a total of 10 years in various places in Texas and in Scotland. He returned permanently to Albuquerque in 2015. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, opera, attending live musical and stage performances, reading, and visiting with friend. He was a long time contributor to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he attended performances yearly. He was a long time member of Mesa Lodge AF and AM.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and his partner of 58 years, Jacob Beidler. He is survived by his niece, Jane Kee and her husband Eric Ploeger, College Station, Tx; nephew William McMullen and wife Christa Hemmel of Denver, two grand-nephews and a great-grand nephew. He is also survived by special friend (and "adopted daughter") Dr. Sandra Montoya of Albuquerque, and by Bart Evans and Patrick Mulhall; Philadelphia, PA; Ellen Glenn, Bradenton, FL; and another special friend who made his last years happy ones.
