Thomas S. Talty of Rio Rancho NM, born February 7, 1928 in Lackawanna NY, died April 1, 2017 at his home at the Village of Alameda.  He was 89 years old.  He is survived by his dearest daughter Dorothea M. Currier and son-in law John H. Currier Jr. of Rio Rancho and three granddaughters; Samantha M. Chenier and her husband, Eric R. Chenier of Santa Fe; Aileen B. Currier of Boston MA; Roxann G. Vineyard and her husband Craig M. Vineyard of Cedar Crest; one great-granddaughter, Amelia K. Chenier of Santa Fe; two brothers:  Bernard F. Talty and his partner Ann King of Victor NY; and Peter M. Talty and his wife Janice L. Talty of Amherst NY.
Mr. Talty was a retired Certified Internal Auditor and a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  He was also a retired Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force with 23 years of active service.  After World War II ended, he served with U.S. Occupation Forces in Austria and Germany, and on the Berlin Airlift for which he was awarded the Medal for Humane Action.  His tours of duty also included assignments in England, Turkey and in many of the States.
His last assignment before retirement was in Germany at Bitburg Air Force Base.  During his time in the service he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) with Airplane Device, The Outstanding Unit Award, the Good Conduct Medal, The Cold War Medal, and other awards.  He was a lifetime member of the Air Force Association, the Air Force Sergeants’ Association, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was also a member of the Berlin Airlift Veterans Association and the Tulln Air Base Veterans Group of Vienna, Austria.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Karoline Talty, nee Machanek; who he met and married in Vienna, Austria; his parents;  Thomas E. and Catherine A. Talty, nee Farnham; a sister, Susan A. Riley; two brothers, Patrick E. Talty and Daniel J. Talty; a sister-in-law, Anne Marie Talty, nee Pepe; and his parents-in-law, Richard and Maria Weiss, nee Heschenberger.
A memorial service will be held at the Village of Alameda.  An Honor Guard ceremony will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
