Golvia Augusta Tomazine Morrow Reeves, who graced this earthly plane for 105 years, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025 at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born in Paragould, Arkansas on August 20, 1919, she was the oldest daughter in a family of nine children that earned its living from the soil. Despite only sporadic school attendance as a child as her family followed cotton crops in Arkansas and Texas, she educated herself brilliantly and was known for her sharp wit, avid reading, humor and interest in world events.
Tomazine lovingly embraced every moment of an incredible life bookended by devastating pandemics in 1919 and 2020, the Great Depression, World War II, losing a brother in the Korean War, moving from Texas to Northern California to develop a small farm and finally retiring to New Mexico. Tomazine loved the natural world and expressed that love throughout her life with flower and organic vegetable gardening, which she attributed as key to her good health.
Tomazine’s artistic creativity expressed itself in numerous mediums, including oil, pastel and watercolor paintings, as well as pottery that she began making at the age of eighty.
Treasured by her late husband of 71 years, Randall Reeves, they raised eleven children: Zane Reeves, Timothy Reeves (deceased), Taron Reeves, Douglas Reeves, Robin Reeves, Melody Reeves, Mark Reeves, Trail Reeves, Gordon Reeves, Gale McNamara, and Mary Ann Reeves. She was beloved by 30 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Tomazine is preceded in death by her brothers Durward, Douglas and Graydon Morrow and sister Joy Nunnally.
She had the reputation among her grandchildren as a fiercely competitive game and card player, who never willingly let them win. Tomazine never met a stranger and truly led the way to the warmest of welcomes. As for aging she said: "I recommend it. It's like arriving on a mountain top." Needless to say, Tomazine will be profoundly missed.
Plans for an August celebration of Tomazine’s life are being made. Because of her love for children, friends are encouraged to make donations to the Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home, 5700 Winter Haven Rd, NW, Albuquerque, NM, 87120.
