Tommie Luna

Luna, Tommie Age 73, born Maria Tomasita Gonzales, returned to her Heavenly Home on Friday, March 15, 2013. She passed peacefully, in Rio Rancho, NM, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by both parents; her brother, Andy Gonzales; granddaughter, Jessica Gonzales. She is survived by her husband, James; three children; sister, Jennie Jaramillo; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Tommie was born May 22, 1939 in Gallup, NM to Sophia and Ramon Gonzales. She spoke fondly of growing up in the Chihuahuita neighborhood of Gallup. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1958. In August of 1962 she married her true love, James Luna and they enjoyed over 50 years of love and companionship. Together they raised three children: Rachele Luna Gonzales, Stefanie Luna and Christopher Luna. Tommie was a loving wife and mother, a dance enthusiast, gifted painter, avid shopper and sharp dresser. She embraced life to the fullest and carried herself with dignity and grace. Tommie retired from the McKinley County School District in 1998 after a long and fulfilling career. The family would like to thank Rio Rancho Rehabilitation and Care Center and Sol Amor Hospice for their compassionate care and support. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am, Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rod SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Interment to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given in Tommie's name to either St. Jude�s Children�s Hospital or St. Thomas Aquinas Building Fund.
