Ubaldo Waldo"" Atencio

ATENCIO - Ubaldo "Waldo" Atencio, he was born on March 17, 1934 in Cuba, NM and passed away on Sunday, August 09, 2009 after succumbing to a long and courageous battle with many illnesses during the past few years. Waldo was raised in the St. Anthony's Children's Orphanage, by the age of sixteen he joined the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean War. Waldo was in the grocery business for over 35 years, which included travels within twenty seven states and the Caribbean. He held the title of store director for many large grocery chains. Waldo was an extremely hard worker and loved his job dearly. Anyone who knew Waldo knew he loved to read and was a fan of 40's Big Band Music. And who could forget his beloved Chicago Bears. Waldo will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is preceded in death by his brother Herman Atencio and grandson Drake Drinkard. Waldo is survived by his wife of 38 years Ruth; daughters Susan and husband Robert Santillanes of Albuquerque, Dinah and husband Charles Gurule of Albuquerque, Carolyn and husband Bill MacMillan of Pembroke, Maine, Janetta and husband Sam Drinkard of Flora Vista, NM and son Jim Fraser of Kino, Alaska; grandchildren include Deon and wife Roberta Santillanes of Albuquerque, Wilfred and wife Vanessa Sprunk of Belen, NM, Robin and husband Jacob Kualapai of Rio Rancho, NM, Angela Gurule of Albuquerque, NM, Austen Huber, Sami and husband Brian Smithberg all of Flora Vista,NM, Amanda and husband Jake Lawler of Albuquerque, NM, Jeremiah and wife Michelle Fraser of Lady Island, SC; great grandchildren include Natasha, Joseph, Kiana, Jake, Sophie, Zachary, Connor and Emma Leigh; sister Evangelina and husband Arthur Huchamala; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Waldo had a special place in his heart for his dear friends he met during the years he spent at Lovelace Gibson Rehab and NM Heart Wellness Center. Casket Bearers will be Robert and Deon Santillanes, Larry, John and JB Huchmala, and Jim Frazier.
