Valarie Ann Gelabert

Valarie Ann Gelabert, born on August 7, 1961, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on December 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She lived most of her life in Los Lunas before moving to Albuquerque in 2010. Valarie faced severe medical issues with courage and grace, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and strength.

Valarie devoted many years of her professional life to the University of New Mexico, working as a payroll specialist. For the past seven years, she served as an administrative assistant for the Albuquerque Police Department’s traffic unit, a position she held until March of 2024. Valarie was known for her unwavering work ethic and her ability to bring warmth and kindness to any workplace.

She was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie McElroy; her mother, Bundimae McElroy; her brother, Perry McElroy; and her oldest daughter, Tiffany Finley.

Valarie leaves behind her devoted husband of 39 years, Pete Gelabert; her loving youngest daughter, Tinisha Thoma, and son-in-law, Joshua Thoma; and her cherished grandchildren, Brailyn Thoma, Mcaidyn Thoma, Jace Gelabert, and Logan Gelabert. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and joy in their presence.

Valarie’s life was defined by her love for her family, her dedication to her work, and her resilient spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

A celebration of Valarie’s life will take place on January 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Funeral Home, located at 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, located at 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
