Valentina "Tina" S. Roybal

Valentina "Tina" S. Roybal, age 87, passed away on Sunday, April 27. 2014, at home surrounded by her family. "Tina" was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Lawrence Roybal; parents Nicholas and Isabel Sena; brothers Claude Sena, Eligio Sena, Eloy Sena; sisters Frances Gomez, Irene Martinez, Nestora Chavez, Rosella Miller, Aurora Baumgardner. She is survived by son, Richard Roybal and his partner Virginia Voight; daughter Beverly Baca and her partner Doyle Winter; daughter, Rose Harms; daughter Mae Dotson and her husband Tim; and son Christopher Roybal; grandchildren Therese Baca-Radler and Robert Baca, Janea and Aleah Roybal, Monica and Andrew Harms, Christopher Plummer, Kristen and Robert Roybal; great-grandchildren Heaven and Antonio Roybal, Elias Roybal-Apodaca, Julian Apodaca, Annaleah Young, Isabel Plummer-McCoy, Gabriel, Astrid, and Aubrey Radler, and Ava Aragon. The youngest of nine siblings, Tina was born in Nambe', New Mexico. When she was a young girl, her family moved to Durango, Colorado, where she spent most of her childhood. She moved to Albuquerque and graduated from the Regina School of Nursing at the old St. Joseph's Hospital. After she married Lawrence, they raised their children in Albuquerque's North Valley. A devoted wife and mother, Tina helped Lawrence at their Alameda grocery store, Roybal's Market, when the children attended school. Tina was part of "The Greatest Generation," a Registered Nurse during World War II. Always the caregiver, her kindness and compassion touched many lives. Her greatest joy was her family. She taught many of her grandchildren to read. She was an avid garage-sale picker and collector of antiques. A great fan of old movies, she sang and danced to movie tunes for her grandchildren. Tina enjoyed discussing local and national political issues and current events. Her time spent at the Paradise Hills Community Center brought her much happiness. She was extremely funny, and there was never a dull moment with Tina. Feisty, precious, and forever loving, she will be greatly missed. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
