VAN GARLICK, was born to Fred and Julia Garlick on August 1, 1924 in Phoenix, Arizona and passed away on October 13, 2008 at his home in LaPlata, New Mexico at the age of 84. Van was a loving husband to his wife Charlotte, a loving father to this three children; Starla (husband, Richard Vasser), Santha (husband Joaquin Huntington), and Troy (wife, Patricia) and a loving grandfather to three grandchildren; Auston, Sorrel, and Colton Van. The Garlick name has been synonymous with law enforcement and ranching throughout the history of Texas, particularly the Van Horn, Texas area; and Van was no exception. He grew up ranching with his dad, brothers and sisters, as their tradition is carried on today. Van was a Veteran, having served in WWII at the Battle of the Bulge, and was wounded in combat. He later received an honorable discharge before returning to Texas to ranch and raise a family. He was jack-of-all trades and master of many. He was a cowman, a horseman, and could operate any type of heavy equipment, as well as being a good mechanic. Van, those of us left behind will dearly miss you, but we know that you are waiting as patiently as always, until we meet for that big Fall gather and Spring branding in the sky.
Van was the 3rd oldest in a family of six boys and six girls. He was preceded in death by his Father, William Fred Garlick; his Mother, Julia Segura-Garlick; two sisters, Jimmie Lou Graham and Lucille Henderson; and one brother, Fred Garlick. He is survived by four brothers; Henry, Marvin, Lee Roy, and James, and for four sisters; Martha McElroy, Cecelia Elliott, Evelyn Enriquez, and Ida Mae Beasley.Van will be cremated and interred in Van Horn, Texas beside his mother and father at the end of November of this year. The family suggests that donations be made in Van's memory to the charity of your choice.Van's arrangements are entrusted to
