Vera (Mickie) Martinez

After a long battle with dementia, Vera (Mickie) Martinez, 83, of Farmington passed away January 24, 2010 in Farmington. She was born June 22, 1926 in Hartford, Connecticut the fourth daughter of Alexander and Lillian Kirkwood. She was the beloved wife of Gilbert Martinez of Farmington, Mom to Lynn Winters and husband Charlie of Seattle, Washington, Grandmother to Meredith Winters of Kirkland, Washington. She is survived by two of her five sisters, June Stuart and Barbara Kirkwood both of Southern California. Also surviving are her dear nephew Pat Kelley, his wife Cindy and their daughters, Tara and Kodie of Durango, Colorado. Mickie was a child care provider for many years and has continued to have a close relationship with "all her kids" and their families. She loved each of them and their parents. Before her illness she loved to do ceramics making many wonderful gifts for family and friends. Cremation will take place with a memorial service and burial to be scheduled at a future date. We would like to thank Tammy Felix for all her friendship and care. Her love and care enabled Mickie to be at home with Gib for seven years.
