Vidal S Romero

Romero, Vidal (Saavedra) 88 of Socorro, NM passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She had been in the skilled and caring hands of Socorro Home Health -Hospice Services for several years. Vidal was born in the coal mining town of Tokay, NM on September 29th, 1925 to Jose Ignacio and Nepumusena (Gabaldon) Saavedra. She married during WWII to Fabian B. Romero of San Pedro, on June 26, 1944 and together they had six children, Patricia D. Iley of Los Lunas; Lilly Evitt (husband, Jim) of Polvadera; Moises Romero (wife, Diana) of Lemitar; Rosa Anna Jones of Albuquerque; Jeanne Gacanich (husband, Larry) of Socorro; and Fabian Romero Jr. of Socorro. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 43 years, Fabian; her brothers, Estevan Saavedra; Jose I. Saavedra Jr.; Antonio (Tony) Saavedra; and Louis Saavedra. She is survived by her children; her sisters, Telesfora S. Rios of Socorro; and Frances LaBella of Corrales; her grandchildren, Mike; Angela; Shanna; Joseph; Rebecca; Candice; Marea; DaVonna; Mileva; Mirjana; Dushan; Larry Jr.; John; and Amber; several great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Vidal, along with her husband Fabian, was a long time business owner in Socorro. She loved her family and had many hobbies including gardening, bird watching and sewing. She was a lifelong learner and an excellent listener. Her brother, Louis Saavedra, former mayor of Albuquerque on many occasions treated state dignitaries to delicious meals prepared by his sister Vidal. She was a member of San Miguel Parish in Socorro and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. Together with her son, Fabian Jr., Vidal participated in and hosted pilgrims of the Eucharistic Prayer Vigil for Peace for many years. Funeral services will be held at San Miguel Parish in Socorro. The Holy Rosary will be recited by members of the Legion of Mary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 22, 2013 and the Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 followed by interment at the Lemitar Cemetery.To view information or leave a condolence, please visit www.danielsfuneral.com.
