Virginia Marie Smith Douglas born August 5, 1916 passed away Christmas morning, December 25, 2011. She was born in Foss, Oklahoma to Clarence and Virda Smith. Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Price Douglas and a son, Dean Price Douglas. Virginia was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and an active member of the Sooner Alumni Association. She and Sam lived in Portales, NM and owned and operated the Portales Drug Store from 1939 until 1977. She moved to Albuquerque in 1998 where she was a member of PEO Chapter BN. She enjoyed bridge at Duke City Bridge Club. Virginia is survived by her children Beverly and her husband Jay Turner of Albuquerque, and Drexel Douglas and wife, Carmen, of Placitas. She is also survived by her grand children, Douglas Chaplin and wife, Joanne; Kelly Chaplin Shinall and husband, Terry; Michael Chaplin and wife,Tanya; Dana Douglas; Ben Salazar; and Melanie Turner. Great grandchildren are Justin, Victoria, and Alana Chaplin, Callan, Ally, and Trevor Dean Shinall and great, great grandson, Aiden Chaplin. A Memorial Service will be held this Friday, December 30, 2011, at 1:00pm, at Daniels Family Funeral Services Carlisle Chapel. Internment will take place in the Portales Cemetery at a later date.
