Virginia Ann Smith

Virginia Ann Smith, 89, passed away on June 30, 2011. She was born in Tulsa, OK on January 10, 1922 to Judson and Carrie McEntire. Virginia graduated from Central High School in Tulsa and attended Oklahoma A&E (now Oklahoma State University). She worked for the U.S. Corp of Engineers and Stanolind Oil and Gas in Tulsa. In Farmington, she worked in the office of McKinley Elementary and later worked and retired from Northwest Pipeline/Williams Company where she worked for Forrest Wood. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist church and president of the Friendship/Fellowship class for many years. Virginia was an avid bridge player and belonged to several clubs since the early 1950’s. She was a member of the Desk and Derrick Club, Four Corners Horse Association, the Farmington Museum Foundation and San Juan Animal League. Virginia was an enormous lover of all creatures great and small. Jack, her Jack Russell terrier has been with her for the past 15 years and they were never far apart. Her devotion and love for her family and friends was evident in her daily life. Virginia never met a stranger and once you met her, you never forgot her. She knew and loved her Lord and walked His path every day of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Copeland; both of her parents, Judson and Carrie McEntire; and her sister, Helen Bernice Hedge. Virginia is survived by her husband, J. T. Smith; sons, Steve (Laura) Copeland and Mitchell Smith; daughters, Susan (Ralph) Lewis and Beverly (Tom) Taylor; sister, Mary Jo Gandee; as well as 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A visitation will be from 5:00 " 7:00 pm. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 6 at the First United Methodist Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin Ave Farmington NM 87401. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations in Virginia’s name: American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284, San Juan Animal League, P.O.
